ALATEEN/AMIAS INFO FOR MEMBERS
Are you an Al-Anon Member interested in working with teens?
Then becoming an AMIAS (Al-Anon Member Involved in Alateen Service) might be right for you!
The AMIAS may be of service by:
- Sponsoring a registered Alateen Group,
- Chaperoning at Area-approved Alateen events,
- Transporting Alateens to and from meetings and events.
An Alateen Group Sponsor is an Al-Anon member who is currently certified as an AMIAS and has made a commitment to be of service to an Alateen meeting on a regular basis.
AMIAS QUALIFICATIONS
- Be an Al-Anon member currently attending weekly Al-Anon meetings and have an Al-Anon personal Sponsor and/or Al-Anon Service Sponsor
- Have at least two consecutive years of active attendance in Al-Anon
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Complete all NYN Area AMIAS application forms and pass a background check
- Participate in any Area sponsored Alateen training/workshops
- Active members of Al-Anon who are AA members may serve as an AMIAS!
PROCESS AND FORMS FOR BECOMING AN AMIAS (Alateen Member Involved in Alateen Service)
- Review qualifications above for AMIAS service
- Complete and sign the NYN AMIAS Application form (Attachment B)
- Obtain two (2) NYN AMIAS Recommendation Letter (Attachment C) from their Al-Anon Program and/or Service Sponsor or an active Al-Anon member
- Complete and sign the NYN AMIAS New Candidate Certification (Attachment D), including permission to perform required background checks
- Contact the AAPP (Area Alateen Process Person) at amias@nynafg.com and/or the Alateen Coordinator at alateen@nynafg.com to review training modules and to process forms
- All candidates must complete the Area Alateen Training Modules with the AAPP or the Alateen Coordinator and submit an NYN AMIAS Acknowledgement of Training Completion form before final approval
PROCESS AND FORMS FOR AMIAS YEARLY RECERTIFICATION
- All AMIAS will receive communication from the NYN AAPP (Area Alateen Process Person) that the annual recertification process has begun
- All AMIAS must complete, sign and submit the AMIAS Yearly Recertification (Attachment E) to the AAPP indicating if they wish to continue service or they no longer wish to serve.
- All AMIAS need to review the NYN Area Alateen Guidelines.
- All AMIAS need to electronically submit a NYN AMIAS Acknowledgment of Training Completion form upon reviewing the Alateen Training Modules.
