Policy Task Force – created at the 2024 Fall Assembly – presented a reorganized NYN policy document at the 2026 Winter AWSC. Please look it over.

Thought Force – “They are the thinkers”
• Is temporary unit of people established to brainstorm ideas and to develop strategies on a single defined task or activity
• Uses the resources available provided by the members of the thought force, knowing that some members may have additional information
• Is not expected to have all the answers, or to provide the final solutions 
• Uses the Knowledge-Based Decision-Making questions, primarily “Things we don’t know but wish we did,” if there are facts that are unknown 
• Presents its information to the originating body to move forward:

Task Force – “They are the doers”
• Is a temporary unit of people established to work on a single defined task or activity
• Uses the resources available, provided by the members of the task force, knowing that some members may have additional information
• Implements a strategy developed by a thought force.

Committees, Work Groups, Thought Forces, and Task Forces
Knowledge Based Decision Making – KBDM

Area World Service Committee (AWSC)
Four times a year, held electronically
Winter – typically from 9 am -1 pm on a Sat near the end of March, after NERD
Spring – typically before the Spring Assembly – on a Friday night – for about an hour
Summer – typically from 9 am – 1 pm on a Sat in mid to late August
Fall – typically before the Fall Assembly – could be on a Friday night – for about an hour-
Attended by: NYN Area Officers and Coordinators; District Representatives; Al‑Anon Information Service (AIS) Liaisons; Area Coordinators of special services-
Who gets to vote:  NYN Area Officers, Coordinators, District Representatives (DR’s), AIS Liaisons, Past NYN Delegates, Past Trustees
Assembly agenda is planned, information and reports are conveyed, and decisions may be made that cannot wait until the next Assembly

Area Assembly
Held twice a year–once in the Spring and once in the Fall
Typically scheduled for a full day (9 am – 4 pm) and rotates between in person, hybrid and electronic only
Business meeting where groups send their representatives (GRs) to express a voice and vote on behalf of the group-
The Delegate reports the activities of the World Service Conference.
Spring Assembly – typically scheduled in mid May, 3-4 weeks after the WSC so that the Delegate can prepare the report.
Fall Assembly – typically scheduled mid to late Sept
Attended by: Area Officers and Coordinators; Group Representatives, District Representatives; Al‑Anon Information Service Liaisons; Area Coordinators of special services
Who gets to vote:  Group Representatives (GR’s), their Alternates or Designees (cannot be a dual member). One vote per group/ One vote per person

At the Fall 2023 NYN Assembly. a motion was made that NYN, on a trial basis, follow the schedule for Assemblies and Conventions as presented (below) by the Format for Future Assemblies and Conventions Task Force for all of Panel 64 and reflect on how it is going in 2028, the second year of Panel 67.
